Here is a fun and very rare find indeed! A fantastic children’s vintage holiday record featuring Jimmy Boyd, he was a famous American singer, musician, comedian and actor. After several appearances on the Frank Sinatra Show on CBS soon followed, then Columbia Records discovered Boyd and this much loved song, “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," recorded when he was only 12 years and 11 months old. This is a Columbia Long Playing Children’s Record – A complete album on every side with the well loved “Thumbelina” on the other side. Accompanied by Norman Luboff. Published by Columbia Records. MJV – 152 Non breakable 78 LP. We believe this to be a 1957 or 1958 record.

Even in the early days of limited media compared to today, this popular children’s LP became a record industry phenomenon selling over two and a half million records in the first week’s release. Jimmy was presented with two gold records (In the days before Grammys, Gold Records were the Grammys, and they were actually real gold). It went on to sell again and again every Christmas.

Boyd made five appearances on the Ed Sullivan Show and made many appearances on The Perry Como Show, Doris Day Show, Bing Crosby Show, Bob Hope, Patti Page, Dave Garroway, Merv Griffin, the Tonight Show and American Bandstand. He showed he had comedic talents in many Television series including Bachelor Father, Date with the Angels, Betty White Show, Broadside, My Three Sons, and others. He also appeared in a number of movies including Inherit the Wind with Spencer Tracy. He starred with Mickey Rooney, Terri Moore, Dan Duryea and Yvette Mimioux in "Platinum High School" for MGM. Boyd was shooting "Bachelor Father" with John Forsythe and simultaneously shooting "Inherit the Wind" with Spencer Tracey, Gene Kelly and Frederick March for Universal Studios. Boyd also starred on Broadway in Neil Simon's play Star Spangled Girl.

Jimmy loved and owned horses, so Columbia Records presented him with a a silver mounted saddle. Inscribed in the silver plate on the back of the saddle were the words, "Presented by Columbia Records to Jimmy Boyd commemorating his 3,000,000 record of "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." Jimmy was the youngest entertainer ever allowed to appear in Las Vegas. For his contributions to the recording industry, Jimmy Boyd has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

It is in good to very good vintage condition. The record cover is in really nice condition with some light creasing, scuffing, it is bright colored jacket. The record looks to be in good vintage condition with a few light small scratches, do not look like it will affect the playing at all. We are not record experts so we cannot rate this properly. It does look to be in very nice shape for its age.
